PPP Voitsberg
Saubermacher gets the nod in EU-wide PPP advertised bidding
More and more cities and communities are relying on a well-proven model of cooperation between the public sector and private industry – on the so-called “Public-Private-Partnership (“PPP”) – in the efficient performance of their tasks. And this also includes the municipalities of Bärnbach, Köflach, Maria Lankowitz, Rosental/Kainach and Voitsberg. These five communities recently joined forces in the “Voitsberg Core Regional Alliance” within the scope of the Province of Styria “REGIONEXT” initiative in order to jointly optimise the efficiency of their infrastructure and administration. The EU-wide tender of the waste disposal for the entire core region – an area with about 30,000 inhabitants – represents an important step in this direction.
Austria’s leading disposal and recycling enterprise – the SAUBERMACHER Dienstleistungs AG – emerged as the best bidder from this advertised tender.
With the establishment of the joint venture company “Weststeirische Saubermacher GmbH”, in which the aforementioned communities and SAUBERMACHER each share a 50% stake (communities are broken down according to number of inhabitants), the environmentally-friendly and cost-effective waste disposal for the region is secured on a long-term basis.
The company starts operations on 1 Jan. 2008; the conversion works are set to begin as early as December 2007.
