Frank Dicker new Vice President of FEAD
With Frank Dicker, an Austrian was appointed Vice President of FEAD again. FEAD (Fédération Européenne des Activités de la Dépollution et de l'Environnement) as a federation represents the European waste management industry, the members of which together collect, recycle and dispose of roughly a market share of 70 % of the household waste and 75 % of the industrial and commercial waste in Europe.
Environmental pollution does not stop at national boundaries
The waste management industry is an essential factor in everyday environmental protection. For this reason, a joint, coordinated approach exceeding the national boundaries is indispensable. “The course for the European environmental legislation is set in Brussels. Within the scope of my function I can inform decision-makers at the European level about practical experience, in order to effect, together with my FEAD colleagues, an effective, practically oriented environment legislation”, explains Frank Dicker the motives for his commitment. The Austrian waste management expert continues: “The open dialogue with citizens, stakeholders and politicians across national borders promotes the search for the best waste management solutions, simultaneously considering local needs.”
The objective is to keep an eye on economical and ecological targets in equal measure
“Recycling is not reasonable, only when the resources used in the overall process outweigh the final product”, Frank Dicker is convinced. In the current FEAD memorandum, among other issues, the requirements in respect of the better control of waste disposal, the uniform implementation of the 5-stage European framework waste directive as well as the assurance of fair competition between public and private companies are broached. Especially the uncompromising implementation of the framework waste directive, gives preference, beside avoidance, to re-use and recycling over other methods of utilisation, like e.g. waste combustion, and thus guarantees careful handling of partially non-renewable resources.
